Located on the Venice/Marina del Rey border, The Studio
(MDR)™ offers an intense workout just blocks from the
beach. The studio utilizes Megaformers, which are similar to
Pilates reformers but incorporate the intensity of fitness guru
Sebastien Lagree's SPX / System Dynamique workout. This
total-body program takes the strength-based foundation of Pilates and mixes in intense muscle endurance and cardio training. The 50-minute classes feature pumping music and offer an
all-body workout from beginner to advanced levels.
Co-owners Ken Ackermann and Lisa Hirsch opened the studio
three years ago, but recently enlarged and redesigned it, expanding from nine Megaformers to fifteen. So popular is this
studio that most of the equipment is reserved days in advance.
Co-owner Lisa says, “At The Studio (MDR)™, we create
a positive and non-competitive environment where your
fitness and health is our number one priority, with fitness
being the proven fountain of youth. Strength should
know no boundaries. Age, sex, and race don’t
matter; just working on being strong is key.”
The bright, cheery, and distinctly upbeat and
feminine studio also offers cleanses through
its partner Paleta Cleanse, as well as a
fashionable collection of clothing for men

can relax after class, sip a cup of tea, enjoy art, and even bring
their work. The wide variety of classes include Kundalini Yoga,
Yoga of Joy, Vinyasa, Hatha, and the subtle yet powerful practices of Yoga Nidra, healing breath, and meditation. This yoga
and wellness center aims to become “Your Home for Om!”
Golden Sol provides many opportunities for seva, or selfless
service, in and out of the studio. They have currently partnered
with the Downtown Women’s Center to bring yoga, meditation, and self–care to women who have struggled with homelessness. “We have a phenomenal group of teachers and students ready to work with these courageous women who face
the dangers and sorrows of living on the street,” says co-owner
Amy Golden. In order to offer additional support, Golden Sol
