APPROACH TO BALANCE,
HEALTH AND WHOLE SELF
BY ULRICA NORBERG
Yin Yoga is Ulrica Norberg’s take on the
practice. When Norberg integrated Yin
with the principles of ISHTA Yoga (
Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra and
Ayurveda), her practice progressed to the
next level. This book shares her experiences and techniques.
Norberg’s writing style is thoughtful,
warm, and introspective. For her, discovering Yin was like finding the missing
piece of a puzzle. With ISHTA Yoga, she
“found a place and space to grow further.”
On combining the two—ISHTA kriyas
(breathing with visualization) while holding Yin poses—she writes, “all of a sudden
I was inside my body, in my spirit, with no
thoughts hindering me to just be.”
She explains the concept and individualized approach of ISHTA Yoga, created by
Yogiraj Alan Finger and his father, Mani
Finger, and explores Yin Yoga in depth.
The second part of the book details over
20 Yin poses, complete with instructions
and contraindications that empower readers to build their own practice (supportive
props are allowed).
I relate to Norberg’s love for Yin and
would recommend her book as a resource
to practitioners who want to learn more
about this style of Yoga, or who are seeking to balance their hot and power practices. Even after multiple readings, Norberg’s work reveals “new” insights.
