Advocacy by Heal the Bay.
Los Angeles County’s coastline is 75 miles long—this represents a significant connection of our lives as residents to the ecosystem of the ocean. Heal the Bay is one
of the nonprofit organizations that has taken responsibility for ensuring both the
safety of the waters as well as their beauty.
Heal the Bay has been instrumental in a number of innovative initiatives that have
made Los Angeles a more environmentally sound place to live, including the City
of Los Angeles’s 2013 plastic bag ban as well as a ban on shark fin trade in California. While some of the organization’s efforts are advocacy-based, much of the
work requires hands-on assistance from volunteers. Everyone in the community can
contribute to the organization’s ongoing efforts.
