FINAL WORD [mudra]
For Calming Anxiety
The Jnana Mudra is the “Knowledge Seal.” The index finger represents the individual soul (atman), while the thumb
represents the divine source of existence (Brahman). Bringing the two fingers together represents the yogin’s potential
to achieve cosmic consciousness by transcending the mundane affairs of the world and bringing about a release from
ego-centered limitations and sorrows. The three extended
fingers represent awareness of worldly phenomena, formed
from the three gunas, or qualities: stability (tamas), energy
(rajas), and balance (sattva). Sitting quietly, with hands
turned down in Jnana Mudra and resting lightly on the
knees, one can go within to the luminous source of awareness. Here, one can find a calm, quiet, and self-sustaining
refuge from the cares and complexities of a busy life in this
often hectic world.
