Pets Are Guests Too at
BY FELICIA TOMASKO
Sometimes when we travel, we’d like to bring a companion along—one that walks
on a leash and drinks from a bowl. While “No Dogs Allowed” used to be a frequent
missive on hotel websites, many are not only changing their pet policies, but they
are actually welcoming four-legged guests.
When I called ahead to the Kimpton Hotels’ Hotel Palomar on Wilshire Boulevard
in Westwood, they asked for my furry friend’s name. Upon my arrival, I noted the
chalkboard outside the front door, above the doggie water bowl, marked with a
welcome message to Lulu—as well as several other dogs currently staying at or
about to check in to the hotel.
The Kimpton Hotels have one of the friendliest dog policies around. According
to their team, the pets “are pampered stars.” In the room, I called for the hotel’s
complimentary delivery of a doggie bed (soft and upholstered with the Kimpton’s
signature animal print) as well as bowls for food and water. With all the necessary
amenities, we easily settled in for the stay. While I didn’t partake of the service options that include (by request and with an extra fee) pet sitting and pet walking, the
hotel makes them available as needed for guests who have to leave to go sightseeing, attend business meetings, or who need support for their traveling pet. There
are no extra fees, and the hotels even offer an online pet registration form to make
sure everyone is prepared to welcome the VIP visitor.
