The Camp in Costa Mesa is home to many health-
conscious restaurants and organic clothing stores, but
118 Degrees stands out not just as a healthy raw-vegan
restaurant, but as a classy and intimate setting, perfect for
indulging in a glass of wine in the evening or for slurp-
ing a delicious “Yogi Juice” in the afternoon. Everything
served is created from scratch by head chef Jenny Ross.
Don’t let the idea of raw food scare you away; the menu
features delectable vegetable-based tamales, pasta, and
wraps. My personal favorite is the tomato bisque, cooked
at no higher than 118 degrees to preserve the soup’s pre-
cious nutrients. The dish was so comforting that I felt like
I was sitting with my family at Thanksgiving dinner.

SUN SALUTE YOGA
“Sun Salute’s soft surface with no hard wood floors offers
a core challenge in a safe environment,” said studio owner
Troy Cox. “This surface saves undue wear and stress on
joints caused by hard surfaces.”
The studio is not heated so that yogis can feel the natural
heat of their bodies, according to Cox. Sun Salute Yoga
is the only studio in Orange County that offers classes in
Amrit Yoga, a traditional posture class that teaches participants to gain an understanding of breathing techniques,
releasing energy, building heat and how to integrate.
Instructors at Sun Salute Yoga are dedicated to helping
students find what they need to work on individually to
grow. “We try to find a ‘Yoga Goal’ for each new student
to work toward and suggest a path,” Cox said. “A new
student would be referred to our Yoga Basics Q&A class,
and then would move on to a Gentle or Healing Yoga
class, progressing to Level One.” Whether in a literal sun
salutation or a softer practice on the forgiving floor, Sun
Salute Yoga offers options for a variety of students.

Sun Salute Yoga has received numerous accolades since
opening in 2011, including being voted Best Dana Point
Yoga Studio in its first year of business. Much of this positive feedback comes from the studio’s dedication to safety.
