BY DONNA DE LORY
White Swan Records
Are you ready for a fresh spin on familiar mantras and melodies? This is what
Donna De Lory has delivered with Remixes. This release is filled with versions
of her mantras by a variety of DJs who
deliver new flavor to classic favorites.
Mac Quayle, Rara Avis, Eastern Sun,
Desert Dwellers, Atom Smith, Dave Dale,
and Donna all bring their unique styles,
taking the listeners on a sweet journey to
deliver us into the zone.
The track order is well thought out, establishing a smooth ride from the beginning
that gently opens the heart before flowing into an upbeat dance vibe. Remixes
then winds down with deep, ethereal,
and soothing textures seamlessly weaving
English lyrics and Sanskrit mantras for a
result that is pleasing to both the senses
and the soul.
“Om Namah Shivaya,” (track four) is a
highlight; the tabla, drums, and bass are
mega-grooving and listeners cannot help
but move. Moving, it seems, must be the
motivation for Remixes given Donna's
ability to dance, dance, dance. The dance
vibe lays down the foundation for long
jams with Donna's angelic and breathy
vocals that soar over a solid rhythm section holding down some serious beats.
Overall, this well-rounded album of mood
setting, dance-worthy, and heart-opening
remixes is a must-have for all Donna De

HATHA AND FLOW YOGA
FOR BEGINNERS /DVD
BY TAMAL DODGE
Anchor Bay Entertainment
Hatha and Flow Yoga for Beginners
with Tamal Dodge is an ideal DVD for
those just beginning to practice or for
experienced yogis looking to participate
in a calm, back-to-basics Yoga lesson.
The DVD is divided into two half-hour
segments, “Hatha” and “Flow,” making
this video ideal for anyone looking to fit
Yoga into their home life. The box set
contains a strap to facilitate many of the
movements in the sequences.
Tamal Dodge is both calming and helpful as a narrator as well graceful while
demonstrating the practice. His directives are clear and his explanations of
each pose are thoughtful and expressive. The setting is beautiful too; it is
filmed on the Pacific Ocean in the sunlight. The combination found in Hatha
and Flow Yoga for Beginners provides
viewers with a way to take some time
for oneself, to breathe, to see the ocean,
and to heal.
The two programs are varied but equally beneficial. The Hatha section aims to
relieve stress, increase flexibility, and
boost circulation through stretching and
static poses. The Flow portion moves
swiftly through poses to build stamina,
increase core strength, improve balance,
and boost mental clarity and focus.
This DVD puts forward Tamal’s philosophy as a Yoga teacher, musician,
and one of the founders of the Yoga
Collective: Fostering a connection between body, mind, and spirit will create a healthier, happier and more fulfilled world.
